Royal Mail losing 400 postal workers a week, union warns
The Communication Workers Union reports that Royal Mail is losing approximately 400 postal workers every week following the introduction of a controversial new delivery system called DM26. The union claims the reorganization has failed in hundreds of offices, increasing workloads and sparking fears of a chaotic Christmas period. Royal Mail defends the reforms as essential for a financially sustainable service, stating that second-class post now alternates while first-class mail and parcels are prioritized. However, staff report severe backlogs, rising step counts, and mounting frustration over unmanageable conditions.
