Amazon is officially phasing out its long-running Fire Tablet brand. According to consumer electronics head Panos Panay, the older devices simply failed to give customers what they were asking for. In place of the Fire lineup, Amazon is introducing new Alexa Tablets. These devices will run standard Android instead of the restrictive custom Fire OS.
Amazon is breaking away from its traditional 15-year-old Fire tablet branding to introduce a completely new lineup known simply as Alexa Tablets. These new devices bear little resemblance to previous hardware iterations and are engineered from the ground up to feature Amazon's advanced assistant capabilities. The primary focus of this new hardware family is to seamlessly integrate Alexa Plus and offer users an elevated interactive experience that goes far beyond traditional media consumption. By positioning these tablets directly against established competitors like Apple's iPad, Amazon aims to capture a larger share of the premium tablet market.
