Emmys Move to Prime Video in Six-Year Global Deal
The Television Academy has announced a major shift for the Primetime Emmy Awards, moving the ceremony to Amazon's Prime Video starting next year. The six-year global agreement ends the traditional broadcast television 'wheel deal' that lasted for 31 years. Under the new agreement, Prime Video will stream the ceremony for free across more than 240 countries and territories. Industry sources estimate the annual license fee to be around $15 million, representing a significant increase over previous domestic-only fees.
