A top Vatican diplomat has stated that Pope Leo's health should not be taken for granted following his recent lung cancer diagnosis and surgery. Archbishop Paul Gallagher admitted the news was a significant shift for the church. The 71-year-old pontiff underwent successful surgery at Rome's Gemelli Hospital to remove a lobe of his right lung after doctors discovered an adenocarcinoma.
