Genome detectives sequence harmful plant pathogen
Graduate students at Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences have successfully sequenced the first complete genome of a harmful plant pathogen. This breakthrough was achieved through an active-learning activity integrated directly into a plant disease diagnosis course. The project highlights how hands-on educational frameworks can yield real-world scientific advancements. By examining a pathogen from an ornamental Prunus host, the student-led research contributes vital genomic data for agriculture.
