How cells make their command center accessible
Higher organisms enclose their genetic material within a nuclear envelope consisting of two stacked membranes. To survive, the nucleus must constantly exchange molecules with the cytoplasm through specialized selective channels. These channels, known as nuclear pores, act as vital gates that manage the transport of essential proteins and messenger RNA in and out of the cell's command center.
