Geologists Uncover Missing Magmatic Arc in Northwestern Iran
An international research team has identified a previously unrecognized Late Cretaceous continental magmatic arc in northwestern Iran. Mountains preserve vital evidence of ancient tectonic processes, but erosion and burial often obscure the geological record. Led by Istanbul Technical University, the discovery sheds new light on the region's complex geological history and helps reconstruct ancient plate movements that shaped the Earth over millions of years.
