Undergraduate student discovers rare dead isolated galaxies
A UC Berkeley undergraduate astrophysics student has discovered three unusual, isolated galaxies that have stopped producing stars. Cataloged as Shapiro Dwarf Galaxies I, II, and III, these formations are extremely rare due to their distance from other cosmic structures. The findings, recently published in The Astrophysical Journal, offer crucial observational evidence supporting a long-standing astronomical theory regarding stellar evolution and galaxy isolation.
