DIY fertilizer is a blessing as farmers face steep prices
Small-scale farmers are facing severe financial strain due to soaring fertilizer prices triggered by the Iran war, which disrupted international shipping lanes. In response, many are turning to traditional methods to sustain their crops. In Zambia, farmers like Kanangwa Newlove are utilizing bokashi, a fermented compost derived from ancient Asian agricultural practices. Made from readily available local materials, this homemade fertilizer offers an affordable and effective alternative to commercial products.
