Longshot wants to fire cargo into space using a massive gun
Traditional rockets are notoriously expensive, complex, and limited by the strict laws of physics regarding payload weight. Alameda-based startup Longshot Space Technology is reviving an old concept first imagined by Jules Verne: using a giant gun to shoot cargo into orbit. The company is developing multi-injection gun technology to replace the first stage of traditional space launches. By using ground-based accelerators, Longshot aims to dramatically reduce launch costs and make ambitious infrastructure projects like space data centers economically viable.
