Harmanpreet Kaur steps down as India's women's cricket captain
Harmanpreet Kaur has stepped down as captain of the India women's cricket team across all formats, ending a transformative era that included leading the country to a historic World Cup victory in 2025. Her leadership over the past decade popularised women's cricket in India. Following a review meeting, star opener and long-time deputy Smriti Mandhana has been appointed as the new captain across all formats. While Kaur reportedly wanted to continue leading in ODIs and Tests to mentor younger players, the BCCI preferred a complete generational shift.
