Indian opposition MPs detained in protest against election chief
Police in New Delhi detained prominent opposition lawmakers, including Rahul Gandhi, as they attempted to march toward the Election Commission headquarters. The protest was organized to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over a controversial nationwide voter roll revision. Opposition parties allege that the revision process has manipulated voter lists to favor Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. Both the Election Commission and the BJP have strongly rejected these accusations, maintaining that the roll revision is standard procedure.
