Political violence: How justifications influence voter approval
A recent study published in The Journal of Politics examines how framing political violence as a justified response to threats affects voter approval. Researchers Ursula Daxecker and Neeraj Prasad found that legitimizing violence increases public support for both the aggressive acts and the political parties behind them. The findings reveal troubling dynamics among political supporters. For instance, among BJP supporters in the study, framing violence as justified actually decreased their approval of peaceful responses by their own party.
