France promises 3,000 extra teachers to calm student protests
The French government has offered 3,000 extra supply teachers in an effort to calm weeks of high-school student protests demanding better secondary education resources. Education Minister Edouard Geffray announced the measure following widespread demonstrations that saw thousands gather at the Bastille and instances of clashes with police. While the announcement marks the first material concession by the government, student leaders have responded with guarded skepticism. Unions are demanding more substantial funding and concrete results before halting their ongoing nationwide mobilization.
