US televangelist Jim Bakker dies at 86 following scandal and fraud
US televangelist Jim Bakker, who built a massive media empire with his first wife Tammy Faye before a major fraud and sex scandal, has died at the age of 86. His death was announced on Monday by his second wife, Lori Bakker. In the 1970s and 80s, Bakker co-founded The PTL Club, reaching millions daily and building the Heritage USA theme park. However, his empire collapsed in 1987 following revelations of a sexual encounter and hush-money payout, leading to his conviction for mail and wire fraud.
