North Carolina's Coastal Forests Are Dying at an Accelerating Rate
A recent scientific study reveals that coastal forest loss along North Carolina's Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula began to accelerate significantly after 2010. Researchers indicate that this alarming trend of ecological decline may still be speeding up. Between 1985 and 2021, the region lost more than 20% of its total coastal forest cover. This rapid disappearance highlights escalating environmental pressures on fragile coastal ecosystems.
