Venezuela's ex-leader Nicolás Maduro charged with conspiracy to torture
US prosecutors have filed new charges against Venezuela's former leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, accusing them of conspiracy to commit torture. The couple, who have been in US custody since January following a raid in Caracas, already face previous drug-trafficking and weapons charges. The latest accusations specifically involve the alleged torture of US citizens detained in Venezuela during Maduro's time in power. Their upcoming trial is scheduled to begin in June 2027.
