Journalist Massacre Drama Bows at Busan Asian Project Market
Director E del Mundo's debut feature, "Once Upon a Time in the Philippines," is presented at the Busan International Film Festival's Asian Project Market. The film is inspired by the devastating 2009 Maguindanao massacre, which remains the deadliest single attack on journalists in history. The narrative follows Sam, a 19-year-old gas station worker who transitions from an unwilling witness to an accomplice within a powerful political clan's private army. As she searches for her missing boyfriend, she uncovers pervasive systemic violence and complicity across societal institutions.
