How 'Ink' Recreated The Sun Newsroom with Vintage Equipment
Danny Boyle's upcoming film 'Ink' explores the rise of Rupert Murdoch and his acquisition of The Sun newspaper on London's Fleet Street. Based on James Graham's play, the movie stars Guy Pearce and Jack O'Connell, capturing the gritty atmosphere of 1969 journalism. To achieve an authentic look, production designers Gareth Pugh and Carson McColl recreated the historic newsroom using functional linotype machines, working rotary phones, and old typewriters. Finding appropriate locations proved challenging since modern developments have transformed Fleet Street. The team ultimately transformed a vacant council building in Bromley, U.K., into the bustling newsroom set. The film premieres at the London Film Festival before heading to select theaters and Netflix.
