Dewayne Perkins to Launch YouTube Skitcom 'I Swear We're Friends'
Actor and writer Dewayne Perkins is launching a new independent digital series titled "I Swear We’re Friends" exclusively on YouTube this fall. The six-episode "skitcom" serves as a love letter to television, with each episode taking inspiration from iconic shows like "Succession," "24," and "Girlfriends." The series centers on Black gay male friendships, aiming to fill a notable void in modern comedy by allowing complex characters space to simply be funny and messy. Perkins leads a talented ensemble cast featuring Devere Rogers, Brian Jordan Jr., and Philemon Chambers, alongside notable guest stars. Directed entirely by Perkins, the first two episodes are scheduled to debut on October 14, with subsequent episodes rolling out weekly. The project marks another major milestone for Perkins alongside his upcoming work on Apple TV’s "The Studio" and "The Blackening 2."
