Expedition hopes to find Amelia Earhart's plane on remote island
A team of researchers from the US is currently journeying to Nikumaroro Island in the Pacific Ocean to investigate a suspected wreckage site. The object in question, known as the Taraia Object, was identified via satellite imagery and could potentially solve the 1937 disappearance of aviator Amelia Earhart. Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan vanished during their attempt to circumnavigate the globe when their plane went missing near Howland Island. Decades of speculation have followed, though no definitive physical evidence has ever been recovered to confirm her final moments.
