Italian producer Andrea Occhipinti recently discussed his deeply personal connection to the new film 'Elsinore', which opened the London Film Festival to critical acclaim. The movie chronicles the final, triumphant performance of Scottish actor Ian Charleson as Hamlet in 1989, shortly before he tragically passed away from AIDS at age 40.
Following the premiere of his film "Elsinore" at the London Film Festival, actor Andrew Scott spoke passionately about the importance of cinema continuing to address the AIDS crisis. While celebrating the rise of joyful contemporary LGBTQ+ stories, Scott cautioned against shying away from darker historical narratives. He argued that avoiding stories about the AIDS epidemic often stems from a misplaced sense of shame. According to Scott, that shame rightfully belongs to the governments and societies that fostered prejudice and ignored those who suffered.
