WindBorne Wins Hefty US Air Force Contract for Balloon Data
WindBorne Systems has secured a major contract with the U.S. Air Force valued at up to $49 million for its autonomous weather balloon data. The Silicon Valley startup operates a global fleet of around 700 balloons that collect atmospheric readings. This partnership highlights the growing reliance on AI-driven weather forecasting and proprietary global sensor data. While the contract ceiling is $49 million, the Air Force pays on an as-needed basis, having initially ordered $1.7 million.
