Warm Chocolate Pudding
A decadent, molten-centered chocolate dessert that is incredibly simple to whip up for a comforting treat.
Ingredients
- •1 cup all-purpose flour (125g)
- •3/4 cup granulated sugar (150g)
- •1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (25g)
- •2 teaspoons baking powder
- •1/4 teaspoon salt
- •1/2 cup whole milk (120ml)
- •4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (60g)
- •1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- •1/2 cup brown sugar, packed (100g)
- •1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for the topping)
- •1 1/4 cups boiling water (300ml)
Instructions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8-inch square baking dish.
- 2
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- 3
Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth, then spread it evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- 4
In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and the remaining 1/4 cup of cocoa powder, then sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the batter.
- 5
Carefully pour the boiling water over the entire surface of the dessert; do not stir.
- 6
Bake for 30 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is bubbling and slightly firm to the touch.
- 7
Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to thicken slightly.
💡 Chef tips
- For a pareve version, substitute the milk with almond or soy milk and the butter with a high-quality vegan butter stick.
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream to contrast the rich chocolate sauce.
- This dessert is best enjoyed immediately; however, leftovers can be reheated in the microwave for 30 seconds.
✅ How it should turn out
The finished dish should feature a soft, cake-like top layer with a deep, silky chocolate sauce hidden underneath that releases a rich cocoa aroma.
