Homemade BBQ Sauce
Elevate your grilled meats and sandwiches with this rich, tangy, and perfectly balanced homemade barbecue sauce.
Ingredients
- •2 cups ketchup (480ml)
- •1/2 cup apple cider vinegar (120ml)
- •1/3 cup dark brown sugar, packed (70g)
- •1/4 cup molasses (80g)
- •2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- •1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- •1 teaspoon garlic powder
- •1 teaspoon onion powder
- •1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- •1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- •1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
- 1
Combine all the ingredients in a medium saucepan and whisk well until the brown sugar is fully dissolved.
- 2
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring frequently to prevent burning at the bottom.
- 3
Reduce the heat to low so the sauce bubbles gently, and let it cook uncovered for about 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
- 4
Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the barbecue sauce to cool completely before using or storing.
💡 Chef tips
- Store the cooled barbecue sauce in a sterilized glass jar or airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- For a sweeter sauce, you can slightly increase the amount of brown sugar or add an extra tablespoon of honey.
- This recipe is naturally pareve and pairs wonderfully with grilled chicken, beef ribs, or burgers.
✅ How it should turn out
The finished barbecue sauce is glossy, deeply caramelized, and thick, offering a harmonious blend of smoky sweetness and tangy bite.
