Garlic Green Beans
These vibrant garlic green beans are crisp-tender, savory, and come together in minutes for an effortless side dish.
Ingredients
- •1 pound fresh green beans (450g), trimmed
- •2 tablespoons olive oil
- •3 cloves garlic, minced
- •1/4 cup water (60ml)
- •1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- •1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- •1 tablespoon lemon juice
- •1 tablespoon toasted sliced almonds (optional)
Instructions
- 1
Wash the fresh green beans thoroughly and snap or cut off the stem ends.
- 2
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- 3
Add the green beans to the skillet and toss them well to coat with the oil, cooking for about 2 to 3 minutes until they start to brighten in color.
- 4
Carefully pour the water into the skillet and immediately cover with a lid to steam the beans for about 3 to 4 minutes until they are crisp-tender.
- 5
Remove the lid, reduce the heat to medium, and let any remaining water evaporate completely.
- 6
Add the minced garlic, kosher salt, and black pepper directly to the beans, stirring constantly for 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant and golden, being careful not to burn it.
- 7
Remove the skillet from the heat, drizzle with the fresh lemon juice, and toss well.
- 8
Transfer to a serving dish, garnish with toasted sliced almonds if desired, and serve warm.
💡 Chef tips
- Do not overcook the garlic, as burnt garlic turns bitter very quickly.
- You can prep the green beans by washing and trimming them up to a day in advance and storing them in a sealed bag in the refrigerator.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days and gently reheated in a skillet.
✅ How it should turn out
The finished green beans should be bright vibrant green, crisp-tender in texture, and richly aromatic with roasted garlic and a bright hint of lemon.
