Garlic Parmesan Bread
Crisp on the outside and warm and buttery on the inside, this garlic parmesan bread is packed with fresh garlic, fragrant herbs, and melted kosher Parmesan cheese.
Ingredients
- •1 French baguette or soft Italian bread loaf (12 inches / 30cm)
- •1/2 cup unsalted butter (115g), softened at room temperature
- •4 cloves garlic, finely minced
- •1/2 cup kosher Parmesan cheese (50g), finely grated
- •2 tablespoons fresh flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped
- •1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- •1/4 teaspoon coarse kosher salt
- •1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
Instructions
- 1
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2
In a small bowl, thoroughly mix the softened butter, minced garlic, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper until completely combined.
- 3
Slice the bread loaf in half horizontally using a serrated bread knife to create two long open-faced halves.
- 4
Spread the garlic Parmesan butter mixture evenly over the cut surfaces of both bread halves, covering all the way to the edges.
- 5
Place the bread halves cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until the butter is melted and bubbly.
- 6
Switch the oven to broil for 1 to 2 minutes until the cheese is lightly browned and golden, watching closely so it does not burn.
- 7
Remove from the oven, let cool for 2 minutes, then slice crosswise into portions and serve warm.
💡 Chef tips
- Ensure your Parmesan cheese is certified kosher, as traditional Parmesan uses non-kosher animal rennet.
- To make ahead, spread the butter mixture on the bread, wrap tightly in aluminum foil, and freeze for up to 1 month; bake directly from frozen at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes.
- For a softer, less crispy bread, wrap the stuffed loaf loosely in aluminum foil before baking, unwrapping for just the last 2 minutes to brown the top.
✅ How it should turn out
The bread should feature a golden-brown, bubbly cheese crust over a soft, warm center, filling the kitchen with a rich aroma of toasted garlic and fresh herbs.
