Fossil Footprints Reveal Dinosaur Ancestors' Transition to Upright Walking
Recent paleontological research led by Dr. Lorenzo Marchetti from the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin has shed new light on the evolutionary history of dinosaur ancestors. By examining early archosauriform footprints known as Pachychirotherium gardenaensis, scientists are uncovering how these ancient creatures gradually moved from a sprawling posture to an upright stance. The findings, discovered in the GEOPARC Bletterbach within the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites of Italy, provide crucial physical evidence of locomotion changes over millions of years. This discovery helps paleontologists bridge gaps in the fossil record where skeletal remains are scarce.
