Kartal Reaches Wuhan Final in Stunning Tennis Comeback
British tennis player Sonay Kartal has continued her fairytale run at the Wuhan Open by defeating Jelena Ostapenko to secure her spot in the first WTA 1,000 final of her career. Returning recently from a six-month injury layoff, the unseeded competitor staged remarkable comebacks in both sets, overcoming deficits and saving multiple set points through sheer mental resilience. With this milestone victory, Kartal becomes the lowest-ranked player to reach this tournament tier since 1990 and is guaranteed to return to the world's top 50 as Britain's top-ranked player. She is set to face Maja Chwalinska in the championship match after a tournament defined by unexpected upsets and phenomenal athletic displays.
