Auroral structure could be caused by bouncing electrons
Recent scientific research suggests that the distinctive curtain-like patterns of the aurora borealis and australis may be driven by electrons bouncing back and forth along Earth's magnetic field lines. When solar wind particles are funneled into the upper atmosphere, these energetic interactions create the mesmerizing colored lights long observed by humans.
