Healthy reef sounds can boost coral and fish recovery efforts
Two new studies led by researchers at UC San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography demonstrate that underwater acoustic enrichment can help restore degraded marine ecosystems. By playing back the natural sounds of healthy reefs, scientists can attract fish and encourage coral recovery. These findings open new avenues for marine conservation, suggesting that soundscapes play a vital role in the complex interactions of reef habitats and could be utilized to heal damaged oceanic environments.
