Israeli Education Minister Halts Standardized Testing Ahead of Elections
Just one week prior to national elections, Education Minister Yoav Kisch announced an immediate freeze on national standardized testing, known as the 'Tnofa' exams (formerly Meitzav). Additionally, Kisch prohibited representatives from the National Authority for Measurement and Evaluation in Education (RAMA) from entering the Ministry of Education offices. This drastic directive follows an escalating dispute between Minister Kisch and RAMA leadership over national testing methodologies and student performance metrics. A recently commissioned independent review by Professor Ami Moyal concluded that there was no factual basis to doubt the reliability of previous exam scores, contradicting Kisch's claims, though Kisch cited the need to fix operational flaws as the justification for his decision.
