Votes of no confidence in Sinn Féin ministers fail at Stormont
Motions of no confidence against Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O'Neill and three other Sinn Féin ministers have failed in the Stormont assembly. The attempt to oust them was launched by unionist parties following a major political row over a planned Orange Order march in Portadown. The bids to remove the ministers ultimately failed because they required cross-community support from a majority of both unionists and nationalists in the assembly. While Sinn Féin dismissed the move as pointless, unionist leaders argued that the ministers' conduct regarding the parade protests had severely damaged public confidence.
