Government expands police support to political figures who are not MPs
The UK government has announced an expansion of police support to political figures who are not currently Members of Parliament. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated that there is insufficient protection for individuals serving in public life, prompting the new security measures. The initiative will extend protection to peers, former MPs, and party spokespeople. Additionally, an urgent, independent review of security arrangements for high-profile figures and royals has been launched.
