Mauritius reels from worst riots in decades after woman shot by police
Mauritius has imposed an overnight curfew following the worst riots to hit the island nation in decades. The unrest initially began as peaceful demonstrations over severe water shortages and the high cost of living. However, tensions escalated dramatically after a woman was shot and wounded by police at a roadblock. Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam condemned the violence, warning that those responsible will face severe legal consequences.
