Zhang Yimou Addresses 'The Assassin(s)' Historical Accuracy Controversy
At the Busan International Film Festival, jury president Zhang Yimou addressed the ongoing debate regarding historical accuracy in Korean cinema. He noted that history is often subjective and written by individuals, suggesting that creative works should be allowed to transcend strict historical facts. Juror July Jung also weighed in, expressing deep empathy for the challenges filmmakers face when their work based on real events sparks public controversy. She admitted that while audience pain is valid, the current climate leaves her feeling cold as a creator.
