Itamar Security Coordinator Charged Over Shooting of Palestinian Woman

Israel's Jerusalem District Prosecution has filed a severe indictment against Pinchas Ran, a 37-year-old security coordinator from the West Bank settlement of Itamar. Ran stands accused of aggravated assault and obstruction of justice following an incident on September 18 near the Palestinian village of Aqraba. According to the charges, Ran entered the village without authorization, stopped a passing vehicle, and subsequently fired at it as it drove away, critically injuring an 18-year-old woman. The case has drawn significant public attention, leading authorities to request that the defendant remain in custody until legal proceedings conclude. Police and Shin Bet investigations revealed that after the shooting, Ran allegedly returned to the scene to tamper with evidence by searching for spent bullet casings. Meanwhile, defense representatives from the Honenu legal aid organization maintain that Ran acted in self-defense after facing a suspected vehicular ramming attempt.
