South Africa Aims to Host First African Olympic Games in 2036

The International Olympic Committee has confirmed that South Africa is among seven nations expressing interest in hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics. If successful, this would mark the first time the prestigious global sporting event is held on the African continent, with a proposal involving multiple cities including Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg. Other countries currently engaged in dialogue with the committee include Hungary, India, Qatar, Turkey, Germany, and South Korea. The governing body has set an October deadline for formal expressions of interest, with feasibility assessments scheduled to take place by early 2027.
