Andy Burnham asks for his Widdecombe remarks to be corrected
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has requested a correction to the official parliamentary record after incorrectly stating that an individual was responsible for the murder of Ann Widdecombe. The comments, made during Prime Minister's Questions, drew criticism for potentially undermining the legal presumption of innocence. Conservative shadow leader Jesse Norman argued that the remarks breached the sub judice rule, which prevents MPs from discussing active court cases. A man is currently awaiting trial for the murder, and the government has confirmed that a formal correction will be issued to Hansard.
