Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream
Experience the rich, velvety texture of classic homemade vanilla ice cream made with real vanilla bean for an authentic gourmet flavor.
Ingredients
- •2 cups heavy cream (480ml)
- •1 cup whole milk (240ml)
- •3/4 cup granulated sugar (150g)
- •1 whole vanilla bean, split and scraped (or 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract)
- •1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt
Instructions
- 1
In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, and salt over medium heat.
- 2
Add the vanilla bean seeds and the pod into the mixture and stir until the sugar has completely dissolved, about 5 minutes.
- 3
Remove from heat just before the mixture reaches a simmer and let it steep for 20 minutes to infuse the vanilla flavor.
- 4
Remove the vanilla bean pod, pour the mixture into a bowl, cover, and refrigerate until completely chilled, at least 4 hours or overnight.
- 5
Pour the chilled base into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
- 6
Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 2 hours to firm up before serving.
💡 Chef tips
- For a richer texture, replace 1/2 cup of the milk with an additional 1/2 cup of heavy cream.
- If you don't have an ice cream maker, pour the chilled mixture into a shallow pan and freeze, whisking vigorously every 30 minutes for 3 hours to break up ice crystals.
- Store in the back of your freezer in an airtight container to prevent freezer burn and maintain the smooth texture for up to two weeks.
✅ How it should turn out
The finished ice cream should be smooth, dense, and creamy with visible flecks of vanilla bean, offering a pure, sweet, and aromatic flavor.
