The entertainment industry is buzzing with the news that the creative minds behind the successful project ‘Bloodsuckers’ are coming back together. Elin Grönblom and Josefin Sonck are reuniting to bring a brand-new dark comedy to audiences, titled ‘Body in the Closet.’ The upcoming series is being produced for Warner Bros. International Television Production Finland, marking another significant collaboration for the talented duo known for pushing genre boundaries.

At the center of the narrative is the character Staffan, portrayed by well-known comedian, writer, and actor Axel Åhman. Staffan is described as a country boy who has managed to find his way into a major big-city cultural institution. As an audience services employee at a theatre, he knows the establishment's history completely by heart. However, his professional knowledge does not translate well into his personal life, especially when it comes to romance.

Staffan harbors a deep crush on a colleague named Betty. Unfortunately for him, his attempts to approach her are marked by painful clumsiness and a distinct lack of tact. This awkward pursuit ultimately culminates in a bizarre and sudden twist: his accidental death by a chainsaw. Yet, per the show's supernatural and darkly comedic premise, death is not the end for Staffan. He returns to haunt Betty throughout the duration of the series, creating a bizarre dynamic between the living character and her ghostly stalker.

Speaking about his casting and the unique premise, Axel Åhman expressed genuine enthusiasm for the project. He noted that he found the prospect of playing a murder victim to be amusing, emphasizing his preference for characters who meet unexpected ends. Åhman believes that comedy reaches its peak when it dances along the borderline of darkness, noting that the Nordic region does not frequently see dark comedy of this caliber. He welcomed the opportunity to step into someone else's script, having largely spent his career playing characters originating from his own writing.

Producer Mia Oikarinen highlighted Åhman's extensive background as a member of the popular comedy group KAJ, as well as his impressive credentials as a screenwriter and musician. According to Oikarinen, his exceptional comic timing and writing experience make him an ideal fit for Staffan and the series' uniquely dark comedic tone. The creative team reportedly envisioned him for the role immediately, much to Åhman's amusement and delight.

Behind the camera, Elin Grönblom takes on the directorial duties while also co-writing the show alongside Josefin Sonck. Sonck is additionally slated to play a leading role opposite the ghostly antics. Grönblom and Sonck have previously established their collaborative chemistry with ‘Bloodsuckers,’ and they bring that same shared vision to this new venture. They have expressed a strong fondness for the dark comedy and horror-adjacent genre, viewing it as a fantastic form of escapism that permits creators and audiences alike to play, have fun, and witness characters engage in wildly unexpected scenarios.

As production moves forward under the Warner Bros. banner, ‘Body in the Closet’ promises to deliver a distinct blend of dark humor, supernatural haunting, and awkward romance. With a strong creative team and a charismatic lead in Axel Åhman, the series is poised to carve out a unique space within Nordic television and the broader international landscape.
