France closes up to 500 schools Monday over student protests
Up to 500 high schools across France will partially or totally close on Monday following days of violent student protests. Education Minister Édouard Geffray stated that security conditions could not be met, noting that 24 schools have been damaged or ransacked during the unrest. The protests, which began last week, involve students demanding better learning conditions, including more teachers and reduced classroom overcrowding. Government officials have alleged that far-left activists have infiltrated the movement, leading to significant violence and the injury of 78 staff members.
