Rainmakers: The drones used to seed clouds
Cloud seeding is gaining renewed attention as countries and start-ups look for innovative ways to boost rainfall amid growing water security concerns. A San Francisco-based company called Rainmaker recently conducted a drone-based cloud seeding experiment in Alaska, claiming to produce millions of gallons of water in hours. While weather modification technology has existed for decades, the use of drones introduces new methods for dispersing compounds like silver iodide into clouds to trigger precipitation. However, these experiments have sparked environmental and transparency concerns among local residents and conservationists.
