England stunned by Tonga in Rugby League World Cup opener
England suffered a major upset in their Rugby League World Cup opener, falling 30-12 to Tonga in Perth. Despite entering the match as favourites, Brian McDermott's side struggled with mistakes and staunch Tongan defence. Tonga capitalized on their opportunities with tries from Haumole Olakau'atu, Stefano Utoikamanu, and Tolutau Koula, alongside brilliant kicking from Isaiya Katoa, leaving England's tournament hopes in jeopardy.
