SpaceX Alumni Raise $100M for Autonomous Electric Freight Trains
Parallel Systems, a startup founded by former SpaceX engineers, has secured $100 million in Series C funding to scale production of its autonomous electric rail vehicles. The company aims to revitalize short-haul rail freight, offering a competitive alternative to traditional trucking. The startup's battery-powered vehicles can travel up to 500 miles without an operator, moving independently or in uncoupled platoons to bypass traditional rail limitations. This technology seeks to capture a significant portion of the $1 trillion surface freight market currently dominated by trucks. By reducing highway congestion and eliminating diesel emissions, Parallel Systems hopes to modernize the freight industry while making short-haul rail profitable again. The funding round was led by AVP with participation from multiple venture capital firms.
