A novel path to fusion ignition: Heat first, then add fuel

Researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy's Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) have proposed a new theoretical approach to achieving nuclear fusion ignition. Traditional methods rely on strict equations to maintain plasma temperature and density simultaneously from the start. By inverting this process and heating the plasma before introducing additional fuel, the new model suggests that fusion conditions can be reached using significantly less external energy than previously thought.
