Navi Pillay, former UN human rights chief, wins Nobel Peace Prize
Former UN human rights chief and International Court of Justice judge Navi Pillay has been awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. The Norwegian Nobel Committee recognized the 85-year-old South African judge for her tireless efforts to promote peace and international law. Pillay's extensive career includes defending anti-apartheid activists, serving as president of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, and chairing inquiries into conflicts such as Gaza and Myanmar.
