Sri Lanka's Ex-First Lady Arrested Over Alleged Charity Fraud
Shiranthi Rajapaksa, the 73-year-old former first lady of Sri Lanka, has been arrested by anti-corruption authorities at her Colombo home. The arrest follows allegations that a charity linked to her, Siriliya Saviya, misused donations intended for a children's hospital. Investigators are examining approximately 10 million rupees raised for a specialized scanner at the Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital, a piece of equipment that officials claim was already provided by the Chinese government. Rajapaksa has denied all wrongdoing, maintaining that the funds remain secure.
