Lib Dem MP quits frontbench job over Ed Davey's leadership
Liberal Democrat MP Charlie Maynard has resigned from his position as a Treasury spokesman, calling for the replacement of party leader Sir Ed Davey. The departure highlights internal friction despite Davey leading the party to significant gains in the 2024 general election. Party leadership and loyal MPs have strongly defended Davey, with deputy leader Daisy Cooper noting that the vast majority of parliamentarians support him and view the resignation as an unwelcome distraction.
