Reza Rahadian Turns Grandmother’s Exile Into Busan Drama ‘Casparina’
Renowned actor and director Reza Rahadian is bringing a deeply personal story to the international stage with his second feature film, "Casparina." The project draws inspiration from the life of his grandmother, Francisca Casparina Fanggidaej, an Indonesian journalist who was stripped of her citizenship in 1965 and forced into decades of exile. The film follows a mother returning home after years away, only to face children who grew up completely without her. Showcased at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival's Asian Project Market, "Casparina" highlights themes of historical trauma, family separation, and the enduring impacts of political turmoil in Indonesia.
